From Dream to Reality
The roots of the conservatory
can be traced back hundreds of years. Today, the conservatory has become
a stylish way to make the garden an even more important part of your home.
The Victorian Influence
The Romans were the first
to build conservatories, using classic marble and stone. Centuries later,
in the 1600's, conservatories gained favour once again as orangeries -
intricately fashioned from wrought iron and glass.
It was the Victorians, however, who built the first 'modern' conservatories.
Modern materials enable traditional designs to be faithfully reproduced,
including roof crestings, finials, glazing bars and stained glass motifs.
Edwardian
Elegance
The Edwardian era was at
its most elegant in the first decade of the 20th Century, known as 'La
Belle Epoque': the beautiful age.
Simple and geometric in
style, the Edwardian values of classical lines, compact design and spacious
interiors can now be reproduced using high technology, low-maintenance
materials.
It was a period of confidence
and grace which has strongly influenced the design of today's Edwardian
style conservatories.
